ROAD TRIP PART 5: Las Vegas!

The next morning we drove the last 100 miles passing by ‘Area 52’ – famous for UFO sitings! After a tiring journey we finally saw the billboard ‘Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas!’. As we reached Las Vegas Boulevard, we were quite amazed by the endless casinos. We found a Travelodge right by Las Vegas Boulevard and, surprisingly, it was very cheap: $120 for 2 nights, 2 people, everything included. We first went swimming: just keep in mind Las Vegas is a big city but still in the middle of the desert so the temperature was about 45ºC! We went in and out of the very strong air-conditioned shopping malls and casinos all day. We stopped at Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant BURGER where we had quality, fresh burgers. Then we went shopping at Caesar’s Palace, one of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas. We of course had to visit the wedding chapels with different decorations either Roman-era or Gothic.

We even viewed a cheesy but entertaining film about Atlantis in the shopping mall. We went on the brand new Las Vegas rollercoaster where you can have a panoramic view of Las Vegas and in the evening we went for the ‘Las Vegas by night’ tour. It’s amazing to see how everything is at walking distance and you could never be bored in a city like that!

There was so much to see and visit in Vegas that we decided to stay one extra day. We visited the Bellagio, the Venitian, the Treasure Island, The Paris and many other casinos. They all look more like Disneyworld attractions rather than casinos – so surreal! But still it’s a pleasure to get inside, get lost and admire all the things that surround you. We even had an Italian lunch in the Venitian looking at the gondola boats in a real water canal on the 3rd floor! Imagine that!

In the evening we were on the way to La Riviera casino, when we walked right by a Work & Travel participant! “Lerika! It’s us!” The girl turned around and so surprised yet pleased to see us. We had a chat and we headed to see a show called Las Vegas Crazy Girls. It was very entertaining and, after all this tiring tourist activity, we made a brief video and went back to the hotel after another amazing day!
